HOW WE HOSTED A HYTALE MODJAM TWO WEEKS AFTER LAUNCH

Hytale launched on January 13, 2026. Two weeks later, we ran the first Hytale ModJam - in partnership with Nitrado and Kweebec Corner.
How it came together
We reached out to Nitrado a week after launch to see if they would be interested in sponsoring a modding contest. They were very excited to help, and we quickly got to work on the details. We decided to run a 4-day ModJam, with a $5,000 prize pool and 10x 3-month Nitrado server vouchers for the top 10 entries.
We started building hytalemodjam.com on January 24. Registrations opened January 30, giving us six days to get a submission site, and a voting system ready. We went with Next.Js for the website due to our familiarity with it, and because it allowed us to quickly build a static site with dynamic features. We used Cloudflare R2 as our CDN and storage solution, and PostgreSQL for our database.
We clearly had a few too many all nighters during this event, but that's what makes it fun! :)
The event
Submissions ran January 30-February 3. Voting and judging followed, with winners announced February 5. We ended up with ~200 entries.
Prize pool: $5,000 total, plus 10x 3-month Nitrado server vouchers for the top 10 entries.
- 1st, 2nd, 3rd place: $1,000 each (Judges' Choice)
- Community Vote Winner (Solo & Teamed): $1,000
The Judges
We contacted a few creators for the judging panel. We had:
- Kweebec Corner
- InTheLittleWood
- Kaupenjoe
- Hawkon
Getting the word out
We reached out to the Hytale team to see if they would be interested in helping us promote the event. They were very supportive, and we were able to get a RT from the official Hytale Twitter account.
In Retrospect
The event was a huge success, and we were very happy with the results. We learned a lot about how to run a ModJam, and we are excited to do it again in the future.
